GB - the project of Danish musician Gustav Berntsen - releases his new double-EP, Ressed / Falter , via untitled (recs).
Ressed / Falter explores the two sides of GB's artistry, with the bittersweet guitar pop of Ressed contrasting the winding ambience of Falter. New single 'Fiction Memory', lifted from Ressed , reckons with the fragility of recollection over uneasy, pensive guitar licks - GB's words sketch the outline of a "good hearted baddie", a portrait warped in sunshine by weeks, months, years spent daydreaming.
Ressed sees GB tap into a swaggering, driving mode, unlocking a new dimension beyond the dispirited terrain mined on last year's debut Gusse Music . It's self-assuredness with a melancholic streak, a confidence born from knowing better than to linger too long -- to indulge only the briefest glance over your shoulder. These three songs feel like a knowing smile, one last look back before the closing of a chapter.
Smoke and shadows intertwine on Ressed 's all-instrumental sibling collection Falter . It plays like an extended credits sequence, one last porch cigarette framed by a setting sun. This is dusk music: ashtray embers and and slow-swaying plumes, crackles and sighs, slow-strummed guitar and ride cymbals. It's music for scenic walks home and low-lit commutes, for reflexive sighs and meandering minds. It has no words, but Falter speaks to something worth remembering in wrong turns and missteps.
