Formed in Bradford in 1980, the band's lineup has changed over the years, with Justin Sullivan being the constant and central figure. They have released numerous albums and continue to tour and record music, maintaining a dedicated fanbase. Their last studio albums From Here (2019) and Unbroken (2024) both hit top positions in the UK and German Album Charts. The 2023 live album Sinfonia hit #1 in the UK and German Video-Charts, making it the highest charting album in the band's history. Raw, unfiltered, and brimming with energy, Live SO36 captures punk rock at its finest. The album can be seen as an indirect successor to their 2023 live release "Sinfonia". Because when the idea of doing a New Model Army concert with a full orchestra at Berlin's magnificent Tempodrom venue was first floated, the band had a thought: that if they were going to do something so extravagant, they should also do the exact opposite on the same weekend. So, they booked the following two evenings at Berlin's legendary Punk Rock sweatbox, the SO36 in Kreuzberg, and returned to being the simplest, stripped-down version of New Model Army they could be - without orchestra, keyboards or double drums. Over the two nights, the band performed 38 different songs (to add to the 21 performed with the orchestra), with the intention that the weekend should be seen as a whole. The Sinfonia project, in all its magnificence, was released in 2023 - now, at last, comes the sweaty, full- on rock and roll.
