Quarters of Change was founded in New York City as a high school cover band in 2017. Within a year, they'd self-released a self-titled album of original material, recorded in secret in their school's basement. A year later, the group -- Ben Roter (vocals/guitar/lyrics), Jasper Harris (guitar/bass/synth/production/engineering), and Attila Anrather (drums/production/engineering) -- added a fourth permanent member, Ben Acker (guitar/bass/synth/production) and they've worked as a quartet ever since. After continuing to self-release singles through 2020, Quarters of Change signed a deal with 300 Entertainment -- a rare rock act on a roster best known for releases by Young Thug and Megan Thee Stallion. They quickly turned heads with catchy singles ("Down That Road," "Innocent") and an EP (2021's New Hour) that showed their reverence for some 40 years of rock tradition, from the guitar-forward styles of the Police and U2 to Red Hot Chili Peppers' laid-back grooves, the Strokes' post-grunge energy, and even the 1975's electronic pop/rock radio polish. "Kiwi," a 2021 cut with a liquid guitar line and a bright, chill sound, became a breakaway hit with fans, and set the table for QoC's first full-length, 2022's Into the Rift, which won over more fans with kinetic riffs on "T Love," "Dead," and "Jaded" and contributing production flourishes by mixer Tom Lord-Alge and Bleachers multi-instrumentalist Mikey Freedom Hart. Sophomore album Portraits, released in 2024, opted for a slightly heavier but still polished sound, as evidenced by lead singles "What I Wanted" and "Hollywood Baby."
