Rue Marie is an indie-folk singer-songwriter, born in Scotland. Raised by her mother along with five older brothers, Rue was shy growing up, training to become a ballet dancer before picking up the guitar age fifteen. Singing and writing alone for many years in her bedroom, she felt she had finally found her voice. Too shy to perform in public, Rue began making home recordings before applying for music college. From the age of nineteen, Rue studied music at several Scottish colleges where she was able to craft her skills. Soon enough she found a small busy community of jazz and folk musicians within a well known Edinburgh venue called "Henry's Cellar Bar" where Rue would regularly perform. This then led to playing in many pubs and venues throughout the years around the capital including The Jazz Bar & the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. With a love for blues, jazz and folk, Rue's music influences include the likes of Laura Marling, Angel Olsen, Sibylle Baier, Karen Dalton and Joan baez. As a little girl, she remembers being transported back in time when she first heard the harmonies in California Dreaming by The Mama's and Papas. This initially started her obsession with the 60s/70s folk era. With the use of her honest, emotive lyrics wrapped in close knit harmonies layered on top of her delicate guitar playing, Rue is able to transport you to a daydream of nostalgia with her melancholy tales of love, longing and heartbreak.
