UPC: 0990481100484 Montreal dream-pop duo Sorry Girls returns with their third album, "Dreamwalker," out via Arbutus Records. Their eccentric blend of nostalgic '70s power ballads and '80s kitsch breaks new ground, dismantling futile illusions to brave the cold and ask what lies ahead. Since forming in 2015, Heather Foster Kirkpatrick and Dylan Konrad Obront have created their own brand of lush, pleasure-loving synth-pop. Thanks to their talent for blending personal lyrics with a quirky sound, their David Lynch-influenced world is free and uncanny. Everything seems familiar, a melody ripples through an old dreamscape, and yet something is off. The band debuted in 2019 with the self-produced "Deborah," which garnered praise from Pitchfork and Gorilla vs. Bear. Their spirited second album, "Bravo!" from 2023 presented a sound more focused on the expanded live band. Inspired by Fleetwood Mac's Tusk era, Sorry Girls set up camp for several months at Two Sisters Recording Studio in Montreal to record "Dreamwalker." With time at a premium, they wanted to collaborate more with the live musicians and make quick and decisive artistic decisions to stay as true to the music as possible. The result is a sound that is earnest, emotional, and clear. Washed-out production techniques and punchy bass lines pair with softer, whimsical piano trills and relaxed drums that echo the thematic push and pull between two worlds. The lyrics play with idyllic visions of love objects, fantasies of future utopias, and the obsessive longing for a lightness and newness that prevails. "Dreamwalker" is self-consciously and ironically self-effacing, caught in the reflection of a window. The album calls for courage--to push back the handles and step into the unknown. Music for fans of Haim, Men I Trust, Fleetwood Mac, and TOPS
