Part 1:
The Beatles recorded seven songs for BBC's Saturday Club on the evening of March 31st 1964, three of which were covers of American rock'nroll and country and western songs. The final portion of the show was also broadcast on BBC's General Overseas Service. Earlier on the same day, the group had been filming a live performance at the Scala Theatre in Kings Cross that would be included in their forthcoming film A Hard Day's Night. (The fourth track on this EP, The Hippy Hippy Shake is taken from the Saturday Club show transmitted on February 15th).
Part 2:
The Saturday Club that the Beatles recorded at the Playhouse Theatre on the evening of March 31st 1964 was transmitted four days later on April 4th. At the time, the boys were filming a live performance at the Scala Theatre for the A Hard Day's Night film and three of the songs on this EP were due to feature in the film. Can't Buy Me Love was used during the police chase sequence and I Call Your Name and You Can't Do That were shot as part of the film's TV concert but not included in the final cut. The version of Everybody's Trying To Be My Baby included here comes from the Top Gear show recorded on 17th November.
